This is a collation of contents pages from different issues of the 'Alternative/Rock' magazine 'Q'.
These contents pages do have similar 'house features' as they all have the iconic 'Q' logo in the top left hand corner. I believe this is an effective feature as it is easily recognisable, as is the cover, and the 'house theme' really has an impact on the reader as they know what to expect - and by nature the audience will enjoy this structured approach.
These contents pages all stay to a similar colour scheme of using red like the logo, again relating to a 'house theme' that comes with 'Q' magazine.
There is one main image that is likely to relate to the cover article. This image is much larger in comparison to the rest. I believe this is effective as it emphasises the cover article and adds excitement and anticipation for that article above all.
Similar to 'Q' magazine, 'Kerrang!' is also shown to have a 'house theme' within each issue.
As a typical convention of this genre of music magazine, I believe that I will also stay to a 'house theme' with my own product as I believe it is a success with other magazines and it will help establish my magazine as successful.

The 'contents' title of 'Kerrang!' magazine is always in the same place in the upper right hand corner of the page. This again reflects the conventions of 'Q' magazine's contents page. I believe staying to a similar style of contents page each week is a very effective feature and adds to the impact and success of the magazine.
'Kerrang!' stays to a colour scheme also, using yellow in all three of these issues for the contents page.
From these contents page examples, I like the way that the one main image is surrounded in a square pattern and believe it to be highly effective.
NME is a popular 'Indie/Alternative' music magazine.
Its contents page features conventions similar to the other two magazines, such as a larger scale image for the main article and smaller images for supporting articles.
Two out of Three contents pages do show similar 'house themes' in terms of layout and colours, however the First example is dramatically different. I believe that the use of a 'house theme' is important within a music magazine and I think that when creating my product I will ensure this is in place - rather than having something so radically different each week.
