Magazine cover research - Kerrang! magazine.

These are a variety of covers from the popular 'alternative/rock' magazine, 'Kerrang!'
Main image
The main images on this magazine cover are very large in comparison to the other images on the cover. This is a common feature on magazine covers of all genres and is used to draw immediate attention to this image, showing who/what the main article in the magazine will feature and add further impact and anticipation for the main article.
Furthermore, these enlarged pictures are used to draw in already existing 'fans' of the band/performer featured. This is a excellent marketing feature as it will make it more likely for the target audience to buy the magazine if a band they are interested in is featured heavily on the cover.
Additionally, the main images of these magazines all use mid-shots and direct eye contact. I believe this is an effective feature as it creates a relationship between the reader and the magazine due to the direct eye contact.
I believe that as a typical convention of music magazine covers, I will include a similar scale of main image to other images used on my cover as I believe it is effective in obtaining the attention of the reader. I will also ensure my models have direct eye contact with the audience in my main image.

Colour scheme
The colours used on these magazine covers are mainly black, white and another colour that is usually quite bold in order to stand out.
I believe these colours are effective as, although it is simple, it makes the cover look sophisticated and professional while at the same adding excitement and lure through the bright, exciting colours.
I think I will use a similar colour scheme with my own music magazine as it is highly effective in grabbing and maintaining contact with the reader.
