Magazine font analysis

I decided that before I  begin to create my magazine I should look into different fonts in order to establish which I will use for my final music magazine front cover.
I used the website 'dafont' and browsed through various headings in order to make a 'short list' of fonts for use on my magazine title. I also decided to use the font preview tool to see what my title would look like in the fonts I had chosen in order to get a better idea if they were right or not.

The first font I chose to add to my short-list was entitled 'Maksukehoitus'.
I believe that this font is quite suitable for the genre of 'alternative' as it looks almost like a typewriter font or that featured on a ransom note. I believe this is successful for the genre as it is quite quirky and unusual - which may appeal to a possibly more 'unusual' (in terms of conformity and social 'norms').

The second font I decided to look at was 'Truck Driver'.
I believe this font is again appropriate for the genre of 'Rock/Alternative' as it looks slightly unusual which would make it stand out.
However I am concerned that when on a magazine cover with many other attention-grabbing images and articles, it may lose its appeal and initial excitement. I think it may not stand out as much I would like it to for a title, and so, believe other fonts may be slightly more suited to the purpose.

The final font I looked at for my short-list was 'Skratch Punk'.
I decided that this font was again highly tailored to suit my target audience.
The font is similar to that used for the 'Kerrang!' title, which I believe suggests that this title will be both effective and successful - as 'Kerrang!' draws in plenty of readers and so persuades them to buy the magazine.
The font is very 'distorted' looking and almost looks broken, which again will suit a slightly alternative target audience who will appriciate the quirky, unusual fonts.

From this research into fonts I have decided that either the second or third font choice on this page will be the font that I use for my final, original magazine title.
I will experiment with colour  and style variations when it comes to the production of my front cover.
