When thinking of a name for my magazine, I took into consideration the genre I chose to base my magazine on. I chose to use the 'Alternative/Rock' genre for my magazine, so to reflect this I need a name to suit my genre, similar to 'Kerrang!'.
With all of this in mind, I came up with a few possible names for my magazine: 'Defused', 'Crash!', 'Revolution!' and 'Unplugged'.
I decided to analyse all of the possible names in detail before making my final decision on the title of my magazine.
Defused
I believe this title is reasonably good as the connotations for the word 'defused' seem to relate to electricity or sparks. This is good as I think it causes the title to be quite memorable.
However, 'Defused' is quite a long title for a magazine and I believe it has something lacking as it may not have as much of an impact as I intend it to on my target audience.
Crash!
I believe that 'Crash!' is one of the better magazine names I thought of.
It uses onomatopoeia similar to 'Kerrang!' which I has proved to be both memorable to a target audience and catchy as it is an existing successful feature of magazine titles.
Furthermore, 'Crash!' gives off a more 'rock' title feel in comparison to some of the other options I have thought of.
Revolution!
I think that 'Revolution!' is quite a successful idea for a magazine title as it does suit the genre of 'Rock/Alternative'. I believe 'Revolution!' gives off connotations of individual people that do not conform to the rest of society and do want a 'revolution' of sorts.
I believe this is a good option for a title as it seems to suit the target audience of the magazine quite well, which may appeal to them.
Unplugged
'Unplugged' is an appropriate name for a music magazine as it does have connotations to do with the semantic field of music.
This is useful as it may make the audience more likely to relate to the title as it is a word they are familiar with and may stick in their mind due to this.
However, I believe it is quite long for a magazine title and I am wary of how it will appear when I am setting out the layout for my magazine.
After deliberation, I decided that the magazine name most appropriate for my magazine would be 'Crash!'.
I thought that 'Defused' didn't sound quite as catchy and memorable as I would want it to be - which is bad for my magazine as I would like a name that people remember.
I thought 'Revolution!' was a good name for a magazine of my genre, but in the end I thought that 'Crash!' had the upper hand as it used onomatopoeia - similar to 'Kerrang!' which I know to be a successful feature of magazines, and it is short enough to be memorable, catchy and stand out on the shelf.
