Magazine cover research - Q magazine.

This is a variety of covers from the alternative music magazine, 'Q'.

The cover images of these magazines tend to be quite fun, exciting and unique.
It shows the cover models in some kind of quirky pose that people will immediately recognise and associate with ‘Q’ Magazine.
I believe that although this is effective, it does seem to be only this magazine that does something more ‘out of the box’ and so I think my magazine will stay more to the typical codes and conventions of an ‘alternative/rock’ magazine in order to secure its place within the existing market.

Colour scheme
The colour scheme of these magazines uses red in order to maintain the ‘house theme’ of the magazine, as the title is iconic and easily recognisable.
This magazine usually uses brighter colours in comparison to other, more conventional ‘alternative/rock’ magazines, which I believe is simply a unique selling point for ‘Q’.
I believe this does attract the reader’s attention to the main articles featured on the front cover.
I will experiment with different colours on the cover of my magazine in order to test if my target audience would prefer something out of the ordinary or stay to the same conventions of a typical alternative music magazine.
