Now I have decided on the model for my cover, I believe it would be beneficial to thoroughly plan my photo shoot.
This will enable me to know exactly how to direct my model, if I will be using any props, the costume for my model and even some possible 'poses' for my model.
Taking into consideration all of the different kinds of images featured on rock/alternative music magazine covers, I have decided to do a slightly 'quirky' photoshoot in order to make my cover exciting and stand out on a shelf between other competing magazines from the same genre.
I have found that the 'typical' convention of women on rock magazine covers is to either be quite sultry in their posing in order to appeal to men, however some features - especially 'Kerrang!' - express another view of women and aim to suit a to an audience who are less interested in just seeing the woman being flirty and revealing, and will therefore appriciate the fun and excitement of the photoshoot.
In order to make my photoshoot fun and quirky, I will experiment with use of colours, props, costume a and makeup, although I believe I will keep it reasonably simple as to not alienate any of my magazines target audience. For example, I may just decide to use a simple prop or an exciting pose for my model rather than go so over the top on bright colour or elaborate costume.
